Course Buoys

We hope your summer is going well so far.

You may have noticed course markers going up over the last week. Thanks to the considerable efforts of Pat Weir, Madison Tindall, Nancy Kielar, Henry Kielar, Joanne Rykes, Janet Ross, Lloyd Le Blanc, Karen Eakins, Kira Moor, Carol Carion and Leslie Barker — they’ve been installed for the Canada Summer Games. GRC is hosting the canoe/kayak events Friday, July 31 (all day until 4pm) and Saturday, August 1 (until noon).

The lane markers will be up all week (yay!) and come out the first week of August (awww). In the meantime, we all get to practice rowing in a straight line.

Know your lane

Here’s how they work: There are 2 lanes heading up to the 2000m buoy and 2 lanes coming back. (You can, of course, still row on the outsides of the course.) Take a look at the map below showing all 4 lanes. The dividing line between the out and back lanes is the line with our permanent 500m buoys —just like always.

Singles, coxies, and bow — consider this your “check your course” challenge for the week.

That’s all for now. But remember, some advice is timeless: Stick to your lane.
