Learn-to-Row
Discover the Joy of Rowing — No Experience Needed!
If you’re looking for a new way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, or just try something different, rowing might be for you. GRC’s Learn-to-Row program is the perfect starting point. No experience is necessary – just a willingness to learn and have fun.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of rowing in a relaxed, supportive setting with experienced coaches and a welcoming community. It’s a great introduction to the sport, and to GRC.
This program is part of Rowing Canada’s Try-It and Learn-It pathways – designed to help people of all backgrounds and abilities find their place in rowing.
Who is it for?
Adults aged 18+ of all fitness levels are welcome. You must be able to swim 30 metres and have enough mobility to get in and out of the boat. You’ll also work as a team to carry boats to and from the dock.
Where is it?
Guelph Rowing Club – Guelph Lake
What does it cost?
$360.
This includes your program fees, membership with Rowing Canada and Row Ontario, and a season pass to Guelph Lake Conservation Area.
What should I wear?
Close-fitting shorts or tights and a t-shirt. Avoid anything too loose – it can get caught in the equipment. Bring socks and a water bottle. A sweatshirt or fleece is a good idea on cooler days.
How many people are in a class?
Spots are limited to 9 participants per time slot, based on coach availability. Registration is first come, first served.
What’s next after Learn-to-Row?
Graduates are invited to join our Adult Novice program, where you can keep rowing, build skills, and become part of the broader recreational community. Coaches will help you figure out the next step.
