Senior Competitive Season Results

This summer 33 junior, U23, and senior athletes represented GRC on Ontario’s race circuit. They delivered impressive performances at CORA Welland, CORA Championships, the RowOntario Championships, and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

GRC’s athletes were very successful at the CORA Championships with 17 top 3 placements, including 6 gold finishes. At this regatta, many of our athletes tried new gained valuable race experience on the Henley course.

Heading into the ‘championship’ portion of July featuring provincials and Henley, our GRC athletes displayed impressive speed and sportsmanship both during training and while away racing. RowOntarios had a new time trials to finals race format this year. Our crews brought home 8 provincial podium-finishes after 2 days of competitive racing in each event.

GRC sent its largest ever contingent to Henley this summer, with 18 crews in attendance. The crews all hit competitive times on Guelph Lake, earning their race entries through time trials weighed against past Henley winning times. Racing during a very hot week, and against a very fast field of international crews, GRC’s athletes saw five boats go through to finals with even more great racing in hard fought semi-finals. Top placements from Guelph included 4th in the Senior Women’s Pair (Paige Burns, Mayva Hergel), and 4th in the Senior Men’s Lightweight Pair (Connor Wideman, Ahmet Gulsaran).

Congratulations to all of our athletes on a great summer of racing and all their hard work to represent the GRC!

A special thank you to the coaches who supported this program including Siobhán Crean, Abbegayle Smith, Dave Léger, Caelan Weber-Martin and Pearl Schachter.

Volunteering Updates

A big thank you to all the volunteers who joined our work party on Saturday, August 3rd. Thanks to your great efforts we accomplished a huge amount of work & the boathouse looks terrific, inside & out!!

  • Bays were all swept clean
  • Wood pile was sorted and stacked neatly
  • Filing cabinets were sorted & organized – work will continue on this large project
  • Trimming & Weed-whacking was done around the boathouse
  • Work continued on the back gardens with new plantings & loads of mulch. We are now 2/3 completed with just a small section to go which we will do this Fall. We will transplant some of  our own plant material plus we have been promised hostas & daylillies from a number of our rower/gardeners.

Again, thanks to all who helped, your efforts are so appreciated.

Our next work party will be Saturday September 7th
